Alpine Paradise at Logan Pass
Hidden Lake Overlook is the quintessential Glacier National Park experience distilled into a short, accessible hike. Starting from the Logan Pass Visitor Center at 6,646 feet, this elevated boardwalk trail crosses through some of the most stunning alpine terrain in the Northern Rockies. It's a trail that delivers far more than its modest distance suggests, a concentrated dose of everything that makes Glacier extraordinary.
The trail ascends through subalpine meadows that erupt with wildflowers in July and August, Indian paintbrush, glacier lilies, beargrass, and dozens of other species create a natural flower garden that stretches to the horizon. Mountain goats are so commonly seen along this trail that they've become one of the park's signature photo opportunities.
What You'll See
At the overlook, Hidden Lake stretches below in a deep cirque, its waters shifting between shades of teal and sapphire depending on the light. Bearhat Mountain rises dramatically behind the lake, its rocky face often streaked with snow even in late summer. On clear days, the view extends far to the south and west across the park's wilderness interior. Look for mountain goats, marmots, and occasionally grizzly bears in the meadows below the overlook.
